When God (Elohim) finished His creation work, He ceased from all of the work He did on the seventh day. After God (Yahweh Elohim) put Adam (Eadm) in the garden to work and care for it, He told Adam that every tree was good for eating, but he must not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil for Adam would surely die.
Interesting to note here that obviously this did not mean that he was going to die physically, but a He would die a spiritual death. Later (Gen. 3), they would die in that they would be separated from God by sin. Adam and Eve died in spirit. Being born again, we are born again in the spirit, restoring what was lost when we spiritually died with Adam and Eve in the garden. (John 3:3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”)
Vs. 18 Yahweh Elohim for the first time said that it was not good for a human to be alone. Everything thing else He created he always said it was good. So he took a “side” (angular-organ) to make Eve. This was not a “rib” if you notice in vs. 23 it says “bone and flesh.”
Additionally, two other things that are very clear to me in this chapter. 1. We have Free Will. If this were not true, then the whole Garden of Eden account is very strange. Certainly Adam and Eve had a choice, and they chose to disobey God. 2. Adam and Eve had everything they needed, and they still chose to disobey. We cannot blame our sins on the environment or circumstances. We can only blame it on our disobeying God’s word.
